VRIC Conference: Frank Holmes has Two Stocks to Watch – GoldSpot and Gran Colombia

GoldSpot taps into AI and machine learning to disrupt mineral exploration, while Gran Colombia had record gold production in 2019

VANCOUVER – Gold continues to shine in 2020. Two companies that have recently caught investment guru Frank Holmes’ eye are GoldSpot Discoveries Corp. (TSXV:SPOT) and Gran Colombia Gold Corp. (TSX:GCM),  he revealed Sunday, January 19 at the Vancouver Resource Investment Conference.

Gran Colombia Gold logoHolmes, CEO and chief investment officer of U.S. Global Investors, said that artificial intelligence and machine learning is a game changer for the mining industry. Geologists are now tapping into AI and machine learning data – including databases, data mining, pattern recognition and statistics – to modernize and disrupt mine exploration.

“AI focuses on a higher perspective, much like an elite athlete,” Holmes explained. “Michael Jordan and Wayne Gretzky have a greater span of peripheral vision compared with the average athlete. This [ability] helps them slow down the basketball and the puck.”

“That’s what AI does,” he added. “We now have these tools to enhance our stock selections.”

Holmes said he found his 2020 gold star companies by applying the quant approach. “Quants will play an increasingly vital role in exploration and development of reserves, and will also shape how mining stocks are traded,” he added.

Goldspot logoU.S. Global Investors in 2019 invested in GoldSpot Discoveries, a leader in AI implementation. Its scientists conduct in-depth assessments of data with algorithms, Holmes stated.

Gran Colombia Gold is focusing primarily on its several underground mines and two processing plants at its Segovia and Marmato operations in Colombia. The Canadian-based mid-tier gold producer had a record year in 2019, producing 240,000 ounces of gold.

Investors looking for the next Franco-Nevada Corp. (TSX:FNV) should learn more about AI and machine learning, Holmes advised.
