The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame (CMHF) announced that four industry leaders were inducted into the CMHF for their impactful and lasting contributions to the mineral exploration and mining community.
These leaders were welcomed at the annual CMHF Dinner & Induction Ceremony, which was held on January 8, 2026, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
- David Harquail: He was the former CEO and is currently the Chair of the Board of Franco-Nevada (TSX: FNV), with a reputation for being a clear strategic thinker. He led the company’s initial public offering, raising $1.2 billion in what was then the largest mining IPO in Canadian history. The company’s market capitalization is more than $50 billion. He was also a member of the Mining Standards Task Force that led to the creation of the NI 43-101 standards.
- Don Lindsay: He was the President and CEO of Teck Resources (TSX: TECK.B). He founded the first mining-oriented investment bank in Canada at CIBC World Markets (TSX: CM). He spearheaded the development of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management as Chair of the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM).
- Catherine McLeod-Seltzer: She is one of the most influential women in the mining industry in Canada, who has built and sold companies worth over $4 billion. She co-founded Arequipa Resources, which discovered the Pierina gold deposit in Peru (later sold for $1.1 billion), and Lucara Diamond Corporation. The Women Executive Network named her as one of the most powerful women in Canada. Catherine McLeod-Seltzer and her father, Donald McLeod, are the only father-daughter inductees in the CMHF.
- Gordon Garfield Morrison: A respected mining exploration leader, he shaped the modern understanding of mineral discovery in the Sudbury Basin and beyond. He is credited with 17 major mineral discoveries, with nine advancing into full production, valued at more than $70 billion in current metal prices.
These individuals were selected for their outstanding careers, great accomplishments, and profound contributions to the mining industry. The event celebrated the outstanding achievements of the new inductees.
