eResearch | At the start of June, the price of gold slightly retreated, dropping below US$1,700/oz before closing the month above US$1780/oz. Commodities analysts remain bullish about the prospect for the gold price to rise above US$2,000/oz from the current level, but the debate continues if this will be in the near term or into 2021.
Meanwhile, gold explorers and developers continue to drill; here are some highlights for June.
- McEwen Mining (TSX: MUX ; NYSE: MUX) had the best overall result (interval x grade) in June with the highest grade hit of the month 776 g/t Au over 2.4 metres at its Black Fox mine near Timmins, Ontario.
- Superior Gold (TSXV:SGI) released two sets of underground drill results from its Plutonic Gold mine in Western Australia hitting 15.1 metres of 56.3 g/t Au and 6.5 metres of 40.4 g/t Au.
- Osisko Mining (TSX: OSK) released assays from 18 drill holes at its Windfall project near James Bay, Quebec, with highlight hole of 376 g/t Au over 2.0 metres.
- Great Bear Resources (TSXV: GBR ; OTCQX: GTBAF) reported results from its ongoing C$21 million exploration program at its Dixie Project in the Red Lake district of Ontario. Results included 20.6 metres of 3 g/t Au, 12.4 metres of 30.5 g/t Au and 576.00 g/t Au over 1.0 metre.
- Alkane Resources (ASX: ALK) released drill results from its 44-hole drill program at its Roswell and San Antonio deposits in Australia with highlight holes of 69.0 metres grading 9.12g/t Au and 71.0 metres grading 3.56g/t Au.
